ICC is awarded the 2019 Compliance and Ethics Award by the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE)

September 20, 2019

The awards, which have been running for the past 15 years, identify those that have made a significant contribution in the growing field of compliance and ethics. This year, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) receives the award in recognition of its work in promoting free and competitive markets globally, and its engagement with antitrust agencies and businesses around the world to integrate ethics and compliance considerations within business operations.

Gerry Zack, CEO of SCCE & HCCA, congratulated the winners of the awards, advising that “each year these awards help us to honour those who make significant contributions to the compliance and ethics profession. These contributions often go unrecognised, so this gives us an opportunity to celebrate our peers and the progress we have made in this area.”

ICC has been working to accelerate progress in the field of compliance and ethics by progressively broadening its scope of support to businesses in this regard. Via several roundtables in the UK – and the ICC Task Force on Antitrust Compliance and Advocacy worldwide – ICC has addressed these priorities and convened a broad spectrum of stakeholders from both the public and private sectors with a view to establishing practical initiatives that would benefit its members and wider society. To further promote the importance of ethical business, ICC produced the ICC Antitrust Compliance Toolkit in 2013, as well as a simplified Antitrust Compliance Toolkit for SMEs in 2015. ICC – with its large member base, presence in Geneva and UN observer status – is uniquely positioned to feed these discussions up to government and intergovernmental level for greater visibility and action. Its efforts led to the formation of the Compliance Officers Network in the UK – an expert platform for information sharing and focused discussions around priorities such as sustainability, ethical conduct and compliance. The Network empowers compliance officers to implement controls and procedures within their respective corporations to further the compliance and ethics agendas in the business sector and in global supply chains.

John W. H. Denton AO, ICC Secretary General, and Chris Southworth, ICC UK Secretary General both thanked the SCCE for the honour. Mr Denton added: “ICC will continue to use the full extent of its resources to lead for the long term and mobilise private sector leaders to meet the calls of stakeholders, governments and the public for a more inclusive and responsible economy.”

The awards were presented to the recipients (global security and aerospace company, Lockheed Martin, being another recipient of the award) at the Compliance and Ethics Institute in National Harbour, MD, on September 15th-18th 2019. Anne Riley, Chair of the ICC Task Force on Antitrust Compliance and Advocacy and a Vice-Chair of the ICC Commission on Competition, accepted the award on behalf of the ICC.
