 Building on the ICC’s recent successful seminar on first-time arbitration advocates, this practical and interactive workshop looks at how to obtain and deal with your first arbitral appointments, from the perspective of both experienced and fledgling arbitrators.

(i) building relationships with the institutions, national committees and clients, including appropriate arbitrator-focused business development;

(ii) double-hatting;

(iii) non-participating parties and default awards – a common theme for those first few appointments;

(iv) document-only arbitrations: how inquisitorial should one be;

(v) tips, tricks and traps for drafting awards for the first time.
