Promoting Digital Trade
The following activities are coordinated by the Trade and Investment Committee.
Our commitments for 2018 are as follows. We will:
- Support Costa Rica as the WTO digital trade leads, Argentina as G20 hosts, the Friends of Ecommerce for Development and Business for eTrade networks to continue promoting digital trade worldwide.
- Support the implementation of the 2017 WTO Ecommerce Agreement.
- Work with partners to establish a permanent private sector digital trade representative in Geneva.
- Help establish a digital trade resource at the WTO to improve access to information for government Missions - particularly for emerging markets where resource constraints are a barrier to progress.
- Continue working with the banking community to further develop the digital trade roadmap and foster more dialogue between big tech firms, telecoms companies and banks to promote scaleable solutions to mobile/digital finance.
- Contribute to the creation of a repository of best practice case studies for policy makers.
- Promote the new UNCITRAL model law to increase the use of e-documentation.
- Convene African business groups and stakeholders to explore how we can support progress on digital trade across the continent - tying into existing intra-Africa and agricultural trade priorities.
- Ensure digital trade has a high visibility presence at the Commonwealth Business Forum, Ecommerce Week, WTO Public Forum and B20.
