    MAKING TRADE WORK FOR EVERYONE

Our core objective is to champion the benefits of the multilateral rules-based trading systems and promote a more inclusive, sustainable model for trade. This includes advocating for open, cross border trade and the benefits of global value chains.

ICC policy fora are our vehicles to build national and international consensus on business positions and rules supported by a variety of events and activities with business groups, governments, and wider stakeholders.

KEY WORKSTREAMS

The following workstreams are where we focus UK efforts.

Trade Reform

  • Champion the case for trade reform through the ICC Recommendations on Trade Reform
  • Support ambitious, inclusive outcomes from plurilateral trade negotiations at the WTO; Ecommerce, Domestic Regulation, Investment Facilitation, MSMEs
  • Support a resolution to the reinstatement of a WTO dispute resolution mechanism
  • Work with UK business groups, unions, NGOs and consumers to promote the implementation of best practice principles set out in the 2018 ‘A Trade Model That Works for Everyone’
  • Work with government to reform English law and enable paperless trade through the digitisation of trade documentation – specifically bills of title.

Digital Trade

  • Work with the ICC network to promote the dissemination and use of the ICC Digital Trade Roadmap as a practical tool to modernise national laws, establish interoperable digital standards and industry adoption of digital systems and processes.
  • Support the launch of the ICC Digital Standards Initiative and creation of new interoperable digital standards for trade

Inclusion

  • Continue to work with UK business organisations to promote cooperation and the strengthening of the UK business voice at intergovernmental level
  • Continue to foster inclusive dialogue between business, governments, NGOs, unions and consumers

  • Advocate the use of bilateral trade agreements to set new gold standards as a basis to further the liberalisation of trade in services at multi-lateral level with a specific focus on the EU, Japan and US deals.
